Sword For Hire 02 Miniature Veteran Sailor NPC
About this miniature
Made from high-quality resin. Miniatures like Sword For Hire 02 by Vae Victis offer a welcome touch of character and levity to any fantasy tabletop game. Taking a moment to enjoy a puff on a well-worn clay pipe, this figure exudes the world-weariness of a veteran who has earned the right to take things slow. Dressed in threadbare clothing and weathered sailor’s boots, he carries the quiet confidence of someone who has seen it all and lived to tell the tale. Far from the frontlines, this fantasy miniature is perfect for scenarios that call for nuance and personality rather than raw combat. Whether he is portrayed as a retired adventurer, a reluctant ally, or an old salt with stories to tell, Sword For Hire 02 adds depth to your Dungeons & Dragons campaign.
From the sculpt, you can lean into a salty sea-dog vibe: a tricorn-style hat, heavy beard, pipe-in-hand pose, and a cutlass-like sword at his side make him ideal as a dockside mercenary, ship’s veteran, smuggler contact, tavern regular, or hired blade between jobs. Use him as a memorable NPC quest-giver, a grizzled caravan guard, or a background character that instantly makes your RPG town feel lived-in.
This is a resin miniature (also great to collect alongside other resin miniatures) for fantasy roleplaying and tabletop gaming, ready for priming and painting to match your setting—pirate port, coastal city, or gritty low-fantasy frontier. If your encounters need story, not just stats, Sword For Hire 02 brings personality to the table.

How we size our miniatures
We measure every mini from foot to eyeline, assuming a 6 ft male, so the millimetre is the eyeline, not the top of the helmet. Females, monsters, and smaller folk scale up or down so they don't look silly standing next to a standard human.
The standard for games like D&D and many roleplay games as well as older versions of Grimdark Battlefields.
Many games use this size as it provides more detail for painting and to fit with modern game systems like Grimdark Wargames and skirmish games. Also used for 28mm Monsters to give them even more threat.
When you need a bit more threat a 35mm mini in a 32 or 28mm game can add real weight to an encounter. Great for painting to maximise detail for the tabletop
Built for shelf display, busts and showcase paint jobs. Maximum surface area for blending, framing and competition-grade detail.

Questions we get asked
A LOT
We dispatch orders five days a week. Everything is printed to order, so bigger orders take longer to print and pass quality checks. Our average dispatch time is 4 days, and very large orders can take up to 20 days. You can contact us at any time to check on your order. If a UK order is taking longer than usual, we can usually send part of it first: just ask!
No! All our miniatures are dispatched washed and cured, so they arrive as a clean base to prime and paint. No waiting, just miniatures ready to use.
Most orders are dispatched within 4 days. Royal Mail usually delivers in 2 to 3 days in the UK and 7 to 16 days to the rest of the world. Busy periods and Christmas can add a few days.
Our miniatures are made from light-reactive resin. It's all very cutting-edge science (or witchcraft, we aren't too sure).
Our resin is designed to flex rather than snap, which helps prevent breakages in the post. Now and then a thin part like a sword, staff or gun barrel arrives slightly bent. This is normal and easy to fix.
Warm water: dip the bent part in water at 40 to 50°C for 10 seconds, then hang the miniature upside down with the part pointing at the floor so gravity straightens it. Let it cool fully before you turn it upright. Still bent? Dip it again for 20 seconds; thicker parts take a little longer.
Never use a radiator, microwave or oven. If you're unsure, just get in touch and we'll be happy to help.

A slight sheen on some areas is completely normal for cured resin and does not affect the model. It can show where supports were removed or where the surface cured a little differently during printing.
If you'd like a uniform finish, a quick scuff with fine sandpaper followed by your usual primer gives an even, matt surface ready to paint.
