Key facts Friday 3 to Sunday 5 September 2027, Żnin, Poland

Most miniature shows are a day out for everyone. WTC 2027 is something different: a championship weekend built around one game, Warhammer: The Old World, where national teams travel to Poland to play for a world title and individual players chase the Crown of the Old World.

This guide covers the teams and the format, the dates, what we know about tickets and accommodation, and how to get to Żnin from the nearest airports. Everything here is checked against the organiser's own website. We're a miniatures shop, not the organiser, so the official site always has the final word.

01

What is WTC 2027

A world championship for national teams, played in a restored sugar factory.

WTC stands for World Team Championship, and the 2027 edition is for Warhammer: The Old World, Games Workshop's game of rank and flank fantasy battles. The organiser describes it as a three-day official World Championship for national teams, so the main event isn't a free-for-all: players come as part of a team representing their country.

Running alongside it is the Crown of the Old World, an individual tournament on Saturday 4 to Sunday 5 September 2027, in the same hall. It's the way in for players who want to compete at the event on their own, for an individual championship title.

The whole event runs Friday 3 to Sunday 5 September 2027 at Cukrownia Żnin (Żnin Sugar Factory), ul. Klemensa Janickiego 1, 88-400 Żnin, Poland. The organiser calls it the year's most prestigious tabletop wargaming event, and it's clearly built for players who travel: the games, the hotel rooms and the restaurants are all on one site.

Who runs it

The event has its own website, run under the name WTC2027, and that's where tickets, rules and news will appear. The site is published in English only, because the event is international, so you won't need to read Polish to follow the rules pack or book a place. The organiser offers email support on weekdays from 9:00 to 17:00, and the contact details are on the official site.

Why a sugar factory?

Cukrownia Żnin, the Żnin Sugar Factory, is a restored 19th-century factory that's now a conference and hotel complex. The organiser says the tournaments will be held in its revitalised historic spaces. For a game about old empires and lines of armoured knights, an industrial hall from the 1800s is a fitting backdrop.

Dates and schedule

Three days for the teams, two for the Crown of the Old World.

WTC 2027 runs Friday 3 to Sunday 5 September 2027. The status above reads Confirmed, which means the organiser has published these dates on its own site.

  • Team World Championship: Friday 3 to Sunday 5 September 2027, all three days.
  • Crown of the Old World: Saturday 4 to Sunday 5 September 2027, the second and third days, in the same event hall.
  • Tournament office: listed by the organiser for the three event days, on site.
  • Online registration: available around the clock once sales open. Ticket and accommodation sales open in January 2027.

Daily start and finish times, the number of rounds and when each game starts haven't been published yet. They usually arrive with a tournament's rules pack, and the organiser says the rules pack and official judging guidelines will be published well in advance on its Tournaments and Rules page. Rules pack status when we last checked: not yet published.

How long to plan for

If you're in a team, plan for all three days plus travel either side. Żnin isn't next to an airport, so if you're coming from the UK you'll probably want to arrive the day before and leave the day after. Crown of the Old World players can arrive a day later, and spectators can choose the day that suits them best.

03

What happens there

A team championship, an individual event, and room for people who come to watch.

The team championship

The heart of the weekend. National teams play against other national teams across three days, and every result counts towards the team's total, so it's as much about planning and trust between team mates as any single game. The organiser hasn't yet published the team size, the number of nation places, how places are allocated or how games are scored. Those details belong in the rules pack, so read it the day it appears.

The Crown of the Old World

An individual tournament over the Saturday and Sunday, played in the same hall as the team event. The organiser confirms it's part of WTC, not a separate show. It's a way to play at a world-level event without being part of a national team, and to compete for an individual title.

Coming to watch

Not playing? To get into the tournament area you need either a free guest registration or a spectator pass. Meals for spectators are a separate purchase. Walking the tables at a championship is one of the quickest ways to learn the game: you'll see armies, deployments and tactics you'd never meet at your local club.

Places are strictly limited

The organiser says the number of places at the gaming tables is strictly limited because of logistical constraints. Tickets and accommodation go on sale together. Ticket and accommodation sales open in January 2027.

What's on. The world championship for national teams, the Crown of the Old World individual event, guest registration or a spectator pass for watching, strictly limited places, and hotel rooms on site booked with your ticket.

Traders or a painting competition? The organiser's site doesn't mention a trade hall or a painting competition, so treat WTC 2027 as a tournament first. If that changes, the official site will say so.

04

Tickets and entry

Player packages, spectator entry and hotel rooms are all booked through the organiser.

When sales open. Ticket and accommodation sales open in January 2027. Registration happens online through the organiser's website, and you can book a ticket for yourself or for your whole team.

What a player package includes. The organiser offers tournament packages, and says they include official WTC 2027 merchandise and full on-site catering. Prices haven't been published yet, so we don't print any here. When they appear, the tickets and registration page is where to find them.

Spectators. To get into the tournament area you need free guest registration or a spectator pass. Meals are a separate purchase.

Hotel rooms. Rooms at the venue are booked through the same ticket registration form, so you can sort your place and your bed in one go.

Getting to Żnin

Fly into one of three Polish airports, then drive or take the train and bus.

The address. Cukrownia Żnin (Żnin Sugar Factory), ul. Klemensa Janickiego 1, 88-400 Żnin, Poland.

By air. The organiser says international visitors reach Żnin most easily through Bydgoszcz (BZG), Poznań (POZ) or Gdańsk (GDN) airport. Compare flights from your nearest UK airport to all three, because the cheapest or most direct route may not be the closest airport.

From the airport. From each airport you can reach Żnin by rental car via the S5 expressway, or by a mix of train and bus. The organiser doesn't name stations, routes or an airport shuttle, so check timetables before you book a late flight. If you're travelling as a team, one hire car shared between you is often the simplest way to get people, armies and kit there together.

Parking. Parking directly beside the main tournament hall, which makes it easy to unload armies, terrain and gaming kit. The organiser doesn't say whether it's free or how many spaces there are.

Access. The organiser says the whole venue is fully accessible to people with disabilities. If you have specific needs, contact them before you book.

The full details are on the organiser's Location and Directions page.

Staying at the venue

The big advantage of Żnin is that you don't need to commute. The organiser says games, accommodation and dining are all in one place, with dedicated accommodation packages for players at the venue. Book your room through the ticket form when sales open.

Between rounds, the complex has three restaurants, bars, a local craft brewery, a relaxation area, a spa, a water park and a private lakeside beach. So if a non-gaming partner comes along for the weekend, they'll have plenty to do.

06

Who it's for

Old World tournament players, their teams, and anyone who wants to watch.

National teams. If you play Warhammer: The Old World competitively and your country is sending a team, this is the big one for 2027. Team events reward preparation, so the sooner your team settles its armies, the better.

Individual players. The Crown of the Old World gives solo players a seat at the same event. It's a good fit if you want the atmosphere of a world championship without being picked for a national team.

Spectators. Fans of the game, friends and club mates of the players, and anyone curious about high-level fantasy battles can come in on a free guest registration or a spectator pass.

Is it good for beginners?

As a player, it's a world championship, so it suits people who already play tournaments. As a spectator, it's a great place for a newer player to learn: you'll see well-painted armies and strong tactics up close. If you're just starting out, a local club or a smaller event is a gentler first tournament.

Is it a general wargames show?

No. If you're after a day of traders, club games and a painting competition, our miniature events around the world page lists shows that suit that better.

Planning your trip

A trip abroad for a tournament weekend rewards a bit of early planning.

Book when sales open

Places are strictly limited. Watch the tickets page and book as soon as sales open.

Book your room too

Hotel rooms at the venue go through the same registration form. Book them together so you're not hunting for a bed nearby later.

Read the rules pack

Army rules, timings and judging guidelines come from the organiser. Read them the day they appear and agree your plans with your team in good time.

Paint in good time

A whole Old World army takes a while. Our guide to batch painting an army helps you get a force table ready without rushing the last week.

Fly with your army

Keep your painted army in your cabin bag, in a case with foam trays, and check your airline's cabin allowance. Our storage and transport guide shows how to pack it so nothing snaps on the way.

Plan the last leg

Decide early between a hire car via the S5 or the train and bus, and check timetables before you book flights. The organiser's travel page is the place to start.

Before you go

  • Checked the dates and venue on the official site?
  • Ticket booked as soon as sales opened?
  • Hotel room booked on the same registration form?
  • Read the rules pack, and agreed plans with your team?
  • Army painted, packed and going in your cabin bag?
  • Flights, hire car or train and bus to Żnin sorted?
  • Dice, tape measure, army list, water and comfy shoes?

Never do this

Touch their army

Somebody painted that regiment for months and carried it across Europe. Admire with your eyes, and ask before you touch.

Coach from the side

Spectators watch, players play. Whispering "charge the flank" over someone's shoulder is a fast way to lose friends.

Spin in a backpack

Every spin with a backpack on is a falling regiment waiting to happen. Carry it in front or by hand between the tables.

Lean on a table

That table is holding up a whole battle line. Find a wall instead.

Forget your list

Writing your army list from memory at the table, on the back of a receipt, is not the relaxed start your team hoped for.

Check in your army

Put your painted army in the hold bag and it may arrive as a kit again. Keep it with you.
