Hamburger Tactica runs Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 February 2027 at the Bürgerhaus Wilhelmsburg, Hamburg. It's a weekend of demo games, collector displays and traders, run by a Hamburg association of volunteers who bill it as Germany's largest convention for wargamers, tabletop players and figure collectors. Tickets are from €7, paid in cash on the door.
This guide covers the 2027 dates and opening times, what entry costs, how to get there by S-Bahn or car, what goes on across the halls, and tips for a trip from the UK. We're a miniatures shop, not the organiser, so every date, price and travel note here comes from the organiser's own website, and that site has the final word.

What is Hamburger Tactica?
A weekend show in Hamburg for wargamers, tabletop players and collectors.
Hamburger Tactica is a convention for people who play with, paint and collect miniatures. It takes over the Bürgerhaus Wilhelmsburg, a community centre in the south of Hamburg, for one weekend each February. The organisers describe it as Germany's largest convention for wargaming and miniature collectors, and say it has been a meeting point for tabletop players for more than 20 years.
The show isn't built around one game or one company. Its core is the demo tables, where clubs and hobbyists from Germany and abroad set out a game and invite visitors to play. Around them sit workshops, collector displays and a trade area, and each year one room is given over to a theme.
Who runs it
The show is published by Hamburger Tactica e.V., a registered association (the German equivalent of a club with a formal constitution) based in Hamburg. The organisers sign their news posts simply as "your Tactica team", and the whole weekend is run by volunteers. The 2026 show was the 20th Hamburger Tactica, and the organiser counted just over 3,000 guests at the 2026 show, a record, including traders, presenters and exhibitors.
The special figure
Tactica has a habit of marking each show with its own special figures. In 2026 there were two: a figure inspired by the hero of the novel Shōgun, to fit that year's Japanese theme room, and a figure of Ditmar Koel, the 16th-century Hamburg seafarer and later mayor who is remembered for fighting pirates. The two-day ticket includes a Tactica special figure. Keep an eye on the official site for the 2027 figure.

Hamburger Tactica 2027 dates
Two days in February, with a long Saturday and an early Sunday.
Hamburger Tactica 2027 is on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 February 2027 at the Bürgerhaus Wilhelmsburg. Opening times are Saturday 10:00 to 19:00, Sunday 9:00 to 16:00. The status badge reads Confirmed, which means the organiser has published these dates on its own site. The organiser announced them soon after the last show so visitors could book time off and find affordable accommodation early.
Saturday or Sunday?
Saturday is the long day, with nine hours to walk the halls, play a couple of demo rounds and still get back to the traders. It's also the busier day, and the organiser warns of a queue at the door first thing. Their own tip is to arrive around half past ten rather than on the dot of ten, by which time the opening rush has gone in.
Sunday opens an hour earlier and closes in the middle of the afternoon. It's the cheaper day ticket and suits a shorter visit, or a morning at the show before an evening flight home. If you're coming from the UK for the whole weekend, the two-day ticket is worth a look, partly because it's only a little more than Saturday alone and partly because it comes with the special figure.
Saturday
The full day. Best for seeing everything, playing several games and shopping at leisure. Expect the biggest crowds.
Sunday
Earlier start, earlier finish and a lower price. Good for a focused visit or a travel day.
Both days
One ticket, both days, plus the special figure. The natural choice if you've flown in for it.
Tickets and entry
Pay on the door, in cash, from €7.
Entry is €10 Saturday, €7 Sunday, €15 both days, under-10s free. The organiser's wording is short: tickets on the door only, no advance sale, cash only. In other words, you pay at the venue in euros. That's unusual for UK visitors used to online booking, so don't go looking for a ticket shop. Turn up, queue and pay.
The organiser doesn't list student or senior concessions, and doesn't say whether card payment or a cash machine is available at the venue. Assume it isn't, and bring enough euros for entry, food and any shopping.
-
Pick your days
A single day or the whole weekend. The two-day ticket costs less than two day tickets and includes the special figure.
-
Bring euros in cash
Cash is the only way to pay for entry. Get euros before you travel or from a cash machine in Hamburg before you head out to Wilhelmsburg.
-
Children
Under-10s go free. The organiser doesn't publish a separate price for older children, so plan on a standard ticket from age 10.
-
Keep your ticket
If you've paid for both days, hang on to whatever you're given at the door so you can get back in on Sunday.

Getting there and parking
The S-Bahn is easiest; drivers should use Park and Ride.
The address is Bürgerhaus Wilhelmsburg, Mengestr. 20, 21107 Hamburg. The organiser publishes its own travel tips each year, which is where everything in this chapter comes from.
By S-Bahn
The nearest station is S-Bahn Wilhelmsburg, lines S3 and S5, about 12 minutes' walk. The organiser points visitors to the HVV app or hvv.de for current timetables.
By car
The spaces in front of the Bürgerhaus are usually full early in the morning. The organiser recommends Park and Ride at S-Bahn Wilhelmsburg or the Lunar-Center car park, a few euros a day, about 12 minutes' walk.
Not recommended
The organiser says the nearby supermarket car parks are checked, and advises against using them on show days.
From the UK
The organiser doesn't give airport or long-distance travel advice, so plan that part yourself. Whichever way you arrive in Hamburg, the last leg is the same: get to S-Bahn Wilhelmsburg and walk from there. The organiser's 2026 tips did warn of a strike on the city's buses and U-Bahn that weekend, with the S-Bahn still running, so check for travel news in the days before you go.

Getting to Tactica. S-Bahn to Wilhelmsburg, then a short walk. Drivers are better off at Park and Ride, as the spaces outside fill up early. Check the organiser's travel tips before the show.
What happens there
Demo games you can join, a themed room, workshops, displays and traders.
Demo games
The heart of the show is the demo tables. Clubs and individual hobbyists from Germany and abroad present a game, explain the rules and tactics, and run rounds that visitors can join. The organiser says no previous knowledge is needed, so it's a genuine chance to sit down and play something new. The organiser's room plans listed more than 30 demo and gaming tables at the 2026 show, each marked with its game system and how many players it seats.
The mix is wide. Tactica's 2026 programme included chariot racing in ancient Rome with home-made rules, Bunker Hill and other American Revolution battles, a Napoleonic battle from 1809, a Jules Verne-inspired naval game, a Trench Crusade table, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, a Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game siege, and a Pike & Shotte game set in 1600s Japan. The organiser says any system is welcome, from the big names to niche and self-made rules, and actively looks for a balance of fantasy, sci-fi, pulp and historical tables.
The themed room
Each year one room follows a theme. In 2026 it was Japan. For 2027 the theme is Epic battles and legendary moments: the turning points where a desperate fight was won by a charge, a sacrifice, a betrayal or a clever plan. The organiser's examples range from the Pelennor Fields to Thermopylae to the Death Star run, so expect history, fantasy and science fiction side by side. The theme after that is already set: Underearth, announced for 2028.
Workshops, displays and traders
Workshops cover the craft and artistic side of the hobby, so look out for them if you want to learn a technique in a short session. Collector displays give people the chance to show their work, which makes them a good place for painting ideas. And a busy trade area sells hobby products and new releases. The organiser's room plans show the show spread across the foyer, a large hall, a small hall and an upper floor.
Community projects
Tactica sometimes runs a project the whole community can join. For 2026, visitors were invited to paint a Space Marine in any style they liked. The organiser says 363 painted models went on show on a shared diorama base, and the whole piece then moved to a tin figure museum in Goslar as part of its permanent exhibition.

What's on. Club demo games, join-in rounds, workshops, collector displays and traders. Check the official site for this year's full line-up.
Join a round
The demo rounds are the easiest way to try a game you don't own. Ask at the table; the presenters are there to show it off.
Present a game
Clubs and hobbyists apply by email to run a table. Applications to present a game at the 2027 show closed on 31 August 2026. Watch the official site for the next call.
Competitions
The organiser's site doesn't mention a painting competition, tournaments or a bring and buy. Check the official site if that's what you're going for.
Who it's for
Wargamers, tabletop players, collectors and the curious.
Wargamers
Historical, fantasy and sci-fi tables sit side by side, so the demo area is a tour of what clubs across Germany and beyond are playing.
Painters and collectors
The collector displays and the finished boards on the demo tables are full of ideas for your own models.
The curious
With no rules knowledge needed for the demo rounds, it's a low-pressure way to find out what tabletop gaming is about.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes. The organiser says outright that you don't need previous knowledge to join the demo rounds, and the presenters explain rules and tactics as you play. Expect most tables to be run in German; if you'd rather play in English, just ask, as many hobbyists are happy to switch. If a game grabs you, our skirmish warband guide is a good next step.
Can children go?
Yes, and under-10s get in free. The organiser doesn't publish anything about a dedicated family area, so treat it like any busy hobby show: keep younger children close, and remind them that the models on the tables and in the cabinets are for looking at unless a presenter invites them to play.
Is it worth the trip from the UK?
If you enjoy UK shows with lots of participation games, Tactica has a similar feel at a bigger size, and in February it fills a quiet spot in the calendar. Entry is cheap, the venue is on the S-Bahn, and it pairs naturally with a weekend in Hamburg.
Planning your visit
Practical tips for a weekend in Wilhelmsburg.
-
Book travel early
The organiser publishes the date about eleven months ahead precisely so visitors can book time off and affordable accommodation. Check your passport is in date, too.
-
Arrive at half past ten
The organiser's own advice for Saturday: come around 10:30 rather than 10:00 to skip the opening queue.
-
Use a locker
The 2026 tips mention 50 lockers for coats, bags and backpacks, in front of the toilets. If they're full, take your backpack off in the aisles so you don't bump into people or tables.
-
Eat at the bistro
The bistro in the foyer serves snacks, cold drinks and small meals, and the organiser expects you can eat well for little money. Bring cash for that too.
-
Pack for purchases
Bring a carry case or a box with foam for anything delicate, and a sturdy bag for the rest. If you're flying, think about cabin bag space before you buy. Our storage and transport guide has ideas.
-
Pace yourself
Walk the whole show before you spend, drink plenty of water and take breaks. On Saturday you could be there for nine hours.

What to bring. Euros in cash, your passport if you are travelling from the UK, a carry case for new models, a sturdy bag, the official site saved on your phone, and water.
Making a habit of shows abroad? Our miniature events around the world guide lists shows by country and month, with a page for each. A few that pair well with Tactica:
Before you go
- Checked the dates and opening times on the official site?
- Got euros in cash for entry, food and shopping?
- Passport in date, and travel and a bed booked?
- Planned the S-Bahn to Wilhelmsburg, or Park and Ride?
- Carry case and a sturdy bag packed?
- Picked which day, or both for the special figure?
- Water and a snack in your bag?
Never do this
Touch a stranger's army
Those painted models are hours of someone's evenings. Admire with your eyes, and ask before you pick anything up.
Backpack in the aisles
The organiser asks for it too: take it off, or put it in a locker. Every turn sweeps a tower off a terrain table.
Lean on the cabinets
The collector displays are someone's pride and joy. Keep your nose off the glass, however tempting.
Park at the supermarket
The organiser says those car parks are checked. Park and Ride costs a few euros and saves the hassle.
Hog the demo table
One round, then let the next person have a go. You can always come back later.
Forget the cash
No advance tickets, no cards on the door. Turning up with only a card and a hopeful smile is not a plan.
